In early 2016 I had an honour to be part of the creative team for a new production by New Venture Theatre (Brighton), Women of Troy by Euripides. Working alongside director Ella Turk-Thompson, I choreographed dance and movement scenes.
I never imagined that a Greek targedy could feel so alive, current and contemporary. Stunning stage design, unexpected decisions (the presence of chorus on stage during the entire duration of the play, ‘foreign’ accents – particularly in case of Helen, the catalyst of the disaster) and fabulous work by the cast made the work incredibly moving. It is a reminder that the nature of human tragedy has not changed in the last two thousand years…
